No. For centuries, Garnets and Rubies were grouped as the same stone "family" - all being erroneously referred to as different types of "rubies." It wasn't until about 1800 that Ruby stone was recognized as a separate gemstone species! So, no, Garnets are not the same as Rubies (which are July's birthstone).

As usual for all jewelry, you should not wear Garnet jewelry in the shower or at the beach/pool. You should also avoid getting chemicals such as hairspray, sunscreen and hand lotion on your stone jewelry. Please do not put any of my handmade artisan jewelry in ultrasonic or steam cleaners. If needed, clean your Garnet stone jewelry with warm, soapy water and dry thoroughly before storing.
